It’s already 2023… we know this is a cliche and we know you’ve probably heard it a million times, but where is the time going? We swore that we just wrote a design trend blog a year ago and the time has already come! Who has their foot on the gas and can we slow down a little?
We need to update our list with the top interior design trends coming in 2023 and see if we can hit the mark again. Crystal balls are not in this year, but we’re going to use our to do a little fortune telling. Let’s see what 2023 will bring in terms of style and homemaking.
Design Trend #1: Eco Friendly
Houses that use fewer resources, or utilize renewable resources, are all the rage these days and the trends show no sign of slowing down. Sustainable design means a few different things to different people but almost all sustainable and eco-friendly homes have these few styles in common:
- Minimalist design
- Plants, plants, and more plants
- Soft edges (not as many right angles and hard lines as a modern home)
- Earthy tones
- Wood
If you’re looking to be the hippest environmentally-conscious person in your group, then keep those simple, yet universal style tips in mind.
Design Trend #2: The Perfect Fit
If you’ve spent any time on Tik Tok or thumbing through your Instagram Reels lately, then you’ve probably noticed the right-sized trend. It started with supermoms and housewives organizing their pantries with containers that held pantry items perfectly in their refrigerators. But this organizational trend has evolved to include the right-sized everything. Being space conscious is definitely a 2023 interior design trend because so many are buying homes and apartments with less space for more money.
But you can be spacially aware without having to buy a smaller home. The right-size trend has these style elements in common:
- Lots and lot of unique and available storage
- Shelving is essential
- Clear containers can be used for almost anything
This level of right-sizing is also a play on downsizing because some grandparents are using the current market peaks to sell their homes at a massive profit and then move to close to family members in urban areas. We definitely haven’t seen the last of the right-sizing movement.
Design Trend #3: Sentimentality
How often are you choosing an ornament or wall art based solely on the color scheme or style of the room? Well, this new trend is going to make that a little more difficult but it will also make your home a little more… well homey. The idea is to fill your house with items that hold a special place in your heart, or at least items that you value highly.
If you need help determining if an accessory is the right kind of sentimental, then we suggest you AVOID any interior piece that fits these criteria:
- You just recently bought it
- It is special to your partner but not you
- The accessory doesn’t have a story
Try to find items that you know will be talked about and that bring you joy whenever you see them.
That’s our list of the most important interior design trends in 2023. We know that you’ll have your own ideas about what’s coming so feel free to leave us a comment below and let us know your thoughts! We’ll see you all in 2023!
